Vacancy Description

The council is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse and with the Royal Family on the doorstep, this is a good place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line opening in Maidenhead in 2019.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is geographically set in a major tourism area with attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.

As a Royal Borough with the Royal Family on the doorstep, it is a desirable place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London (30 minutes by train) and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line (Cross Rail) opening in Maidenhead later this year.

The role:

The Electoral Services team is looking for an enthusiastic individual to joint its well-regarded and high-performing team. If you are looking for a challenge and would like to develop a career in a fast-paced and ever-evolving service at the core of the council’s democratic function, then this could be the ideal position for you.

As an Electoral Services Assistant, you will assist in the delivery of the statutory functions of the Electoral Registration Officer and Returning Officer (including the processing of applications to register to vote and absent vote management) and the administration of elections and referendums. You will be a highly motivated individual with an eye for a detail and the drive to learn new working practices. An understanding of electoral systems and the regulations underpinning voter registration will be an advantage, but full training will be provided in order to perform this role effectively.

Contact with elected representatives, political parties and members of the public is frequent and heightened during the election period, and the ability to exercise political impartiality is an indispensable requirement of this role. You will be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills in order to manage competing workloads during peak times and be able to work well as part of a small team.

In addition to supporting electoral registration and the delivery of elections, you will have the opportunity to support the Information Governance team by assisting with the administration of requests for information (FOI and environmental information) as and when required.

If you wish to discuss this position informally, please contact Suzanne Martin, Electoral & Information Governance Services Manager on 01628 682935.

Closing date: Midnight, 15 August 2019

Interviews: 23 August 2019
