Vacancy Description
We have an exciting opportunity for Senior Facilities Operative to join us!
This is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working, and a salary of £27,302 - £28,312 per annum.
About us:
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council - a unitary authority - takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to the community. RBWM is a unique borough, with huge opportunity given its proximity to London and expanding business sectors, as well as being a major cultural and tourism area which includes international attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.
Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us and we continue to rise to the challenge.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Facilities Operative to join our Facilities team.
The Role:
As a Senior Facilities Operative, you’ll be one of the key people making sure the Town Hall and our civic buildings are safe, secure and ready for everything that happens in them. Reporting to the Facilities Operational Lead, you’ll take on a skilled, hands on role that blends practical know how with day to day responsibility.
You’ll be trusted with security, first aid and fire safety duties, as well as setting up spaces for meetings, events and civic functions. You’ll also mentor and support colleagues in the wider facilities team, helping to share knowledge and keep standards high.
This is a role for someone who takes pride in being dependable and capable, the kind of person people turn to when they need something sorted.
Your role will involve:
- Acting as one of the building’s first aiders, fire wardens and SIA-licensed staff, keeping people safe.
- Carrying out light maintenance and minor repairs, helping reduce reliance on contractors.
- Setting up rooms and equipment for meetings, events and civic functions, often at short notice.
- Supporting colleagues, sharing your skills and helping the team work smoothly together.
- Taking responsibility for building security, including keyholding and alarm duties.
What we are looking for:
- Someone with solid facilities or building maintenance experience, ideally with practical skills in areas like electrics, plumbing or carpentry.
- A team player who’s also confident enough to work independently when needed.
- A calm, reliable presence who can deal with the unexpected, whether that’s an alarm going off, a last-minute event setup, or a security concern.
- Up to date training or willingness to train in first aid, fire safety and security (SIA licence essential).
- Good communication skills, able to work with colleagues, contractors and the public in a professional way.
What we offer:
- 32 days annual leave
- Generous Local Government Pension scheme includes life cover (3 times of annual salary); and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
- Free employee parking close to the offices.
- Give As You Earn scheme.
- Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
- Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
- Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.
RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of its operations. As an equal opportunities’ employer, we encourage applications from all as we believe diverse talent makes us stronger.
If you have a disability, are a current or former member of the armed forces or have been part of any formal care system up to the age of 25, you will be guaranteed an interview, should you meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Interview dates: 14 October 2025 – 15 October 2025
