Vacancy Description

Are you looking for the next step in your Outreach career and interested in supporting ex-offenders to obtain suitable accommodation on release from prison?

If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you. We are recruiting a Resettlement Officer to specialise in working with ex-offenders. This is a customer facing role within the Council’s Housing Service.

The post holder will act as a link officer to professional agencies including Prisons, Thames Valley Police and the National Probation Service and will be a key worker for a specific group of ex-offenders. The successful candidate will work in a personalised way and co-ordinate support from a range of other services to ensure long term outcomes around housing, health and ETE (Education, Training and Employment) are achieved for individuals.

An advantage to this model is that we can be creative and flexible, working to find new and sustainable routes to long term accommodation for these individuals. The team works holistically, identifying root causes of offending and homelessness and working with customers and other agencies to develop creative, person-led, sustainable pathways to rehabilitation and recovery.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of case management and an understanding of the barriers to accessing suitable and affordable accommodation. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, solutions focused and have experience of managing competing demands.

The customers you will be working with may have histories which involve prolonged or repeat episodes of offending as well as complex issues around rough sleeping, alcohol, drug use, mental illness and/or physical health issues.

The post holder will have demonstrable experience of supporting vulnerable people, ideally from prison or street to home, and will need to be confident at building relationships and advocating for their customers with a variety of agencies.

In return, we offer a range of benefits and are committed to providing our staff with a wide range of learning and development opportunities; in support of their personal and professional development.

If you believe that you have what we are looking for, and have an interest in working for a team which makes a real difference to the lives of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and reoffending, we would love to hear from you.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council is geographically set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse. As a Royal Borough with the Royal Family on the doorstep, it is a desirable place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London (30 minutes by train) from Maidenhead with the Town Hall being a ten-minute walk from the train station.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Charlie Baker, Rough Sleeping Pathway Team Leader on 07979 688723 or email Charlie.Baker@RBWM.gov.uk

Closing date: 25 July 2021

Interviews: 29 July 2021
