Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Vacancy Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s strategy for sustainability and climate change. You will be an important member of the Council’s growing Sustainability and Climate Change team sitting within the wider Infrastructure, Sustainability and Economic Growth service.

In July 2019 the Council declared a climate emergency and established a Cross-Party Working Group to undertake an in-depth review of the council’s current carbon footprint and to formulate, consult and agree on a net Zero Carbon Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by 2050 Strategy. The strategy was approved by the Council in December 2020 and we are now looking ahead to deliver against the action plan it sets out.

In this exciting new role you will take responsibility for developing and delivering projects across the strategy’s four themes of energy, natural environment, transport and circular economy. This will include writing funding applications, managing key stakeholders and monitoring project budgets.

You’ll be working closely with members, communities, partner organisations, Council services and contractors to deliver projects effectively and inclusively. An enthusiasm and passion for sustainability is an advantage along with relationship management skills so you can engage others with our exciting plans for the Borough.

You will also assist in the management of the Council’s utility contracts and compliance requirements to ensure effective energy management within the organisation.

The council is set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse and with the Royal Family on the doorstep, this is a good place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London and the West of England, with the new Elizabeth Line opening in Maidenhead.

If you wish to discuss this position informally please contact James Thorpe, Sustainability and Climate Change Lead, by email james.thorpe@rbwm.gov.uk

Closing date: 11 April 2021

Interviews: 21/22 April 2021
