Vacancy Description
The Berkshire Sensory Consortium (BSCS) are seeking to appoint two qualified Teachers of the Deaf to join a large team who work across the six Berkshire Local Authorities. The Service is hosted by Achieving for Children on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Starting Date: September 2021
Location: Initially one post based in Slough/Maidenhead and a second post in Wokingham.
BSCS currently have two vacancies for qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QTOD) to work in a peripatetic role with schools, early years settings, colleges and families (O-25) to build their capacity to meet the needs of learners who have a hearing loss through our Advisory and Teaching programmes.
We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, motivated professionals who are committed to working in partnership with all of our stakeholders and who seek to improve the outcomes for children with hearing loss. The role as a Teacher of the Deaf requires excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and the ability to work independently as well as contributing to the wider team within the Service. The ability to be well organised and to meet deadlines is essential. For more details on the role please see the Job Profile.
We will consider suitably experienced teachers without the mandatory qualification who are interested in developing their specialist skills to work with pupils who are deaf. The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner who has recent classroom teaching experience and is willing to undertake the two-year specialist postgraduate qualification to train as a Teacher of the Deaf. The Service provides a mentorship programme for all new members of staff and for those in training. All teachers are on Teachers Pay and Conditions.
Due to the nature of this role you must be able to travel independently to meet the requirements of the post. A mileage allowance is available from your office base. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable. Teachers within the Service may work across more than one of the Berkshire Local Authorities and occasionally in neighbouring authorities supporting Berkshire pupils on a short-term basis. Each member of staff has a local office base.
Part time may be considered for a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Gail Ditchfield, Hearing Impairment Coordinator, on 07786 511851 or email Gail.ditchfield@achievingforchildren.org.uk
